Purchasing Manager
Job Summary
Primary Function: Oversee technical purchasing operations ensuring procurement of goods, materials, and services meeting operational needs, emphasizing price, quality, and timely delivery. Responsible for building lasting supplier relationships globally and managing multiple projects with greater accountability and technical expertise.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review and optimize the supplier base, ensuring the best suppliers at suitable prices based on volumes.
- Handle supplier communications regarding payment terms, discounts, and bulk purchases, including ad hoc visits.
- Optimize Cash-On-Delivery (COD) suppliers by leveraging current vendors for streamlined payments and opening necessary accounts.
- Establish supplier agreements for consistency.
- Monitor warehouse stock and coordinate reordering with the store manager.
- Explore local sourcing vs. overseas procurement to support BEE (Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment).
- Ensure procurement aligns with approved Bill of Materials (BOM) and conducts timely project procurement meetings.
- Continuously assess and refine the procurement process.
- Manage SAP-based purchase orders, ensuring accuracy and timely closure.
- Participate actively in supplier performance reviews.
- Ensure uninterrupted supply chain and communicate any potential disruptions.
- Monitor market trends, competitor strategies, and supplier landscape.
- Identify opportunities to reduce costs and conduct thorough research.
- Provide briefs, updates, and reports as needed.
- Develop innovative procurement procedures.
- Propose strategies for operational efficiency and continuous improvement.
- Negotiate contracts, improve pricing and terms with suppliers, seeking cost-saving opportunities.
- Evaluate and manage supplier performance and compliance with contracts.
- Maintain a professional approach to supplier relationships.
- Ensure compliance with purchasing policies and procedures during negotiations.
- Seek alternative sources for goods and materials.
- Assess tenders and quotations from potential suppliers.
- Generate purchase orders aligned with final negotiations and organizational requirements.
- Evaluate and research existing and new suppliers.
- Address pricing, quality, delivery, or invoice issues with suppliers.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Diploma in Procurement preferred.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in electrical procurement.
- Tertiary qualification in Electrical training advantageous.
- Proficiency in SAP and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Analytical with problem-solving abilities.
- Results-oriented and deadline-driven.
- Commercially and financially aware.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Leadership skills and ability to coordinate multiple projects.
- Fluent in written and spoken English.
- Driver’s license required.
- Computer literate (Microsoft Office suite).
