High Precision Cylindrical Grinder
We are seeking a highly skilled and meticulous High Precision Cylindrical Grinder to join our production team. In this role, you will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining cylindrical grinding machines to produce complex components to exceptionally tight tolerances (often to the micron level). Your work will be critical to the performance and reliability of our final products.
Key Responsibilities:
• Set up and operate manual and/or CNC cylindrical grinding machines.
• Interpret and work from complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and work instructions, paying close attention to geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
• Select, balance, and dress grinding wheels appropriate for the material and required surface finish.
• Grind various materials, including hardened steels, exotic alloys, carbides, and ceramics.
• Perform in-process and final inspections using a wide range of precision metrology equipment, including micrometres, bore gauges, CMMs, and surface profilometers.
• Maintain dimensional accuracy and high-quality surface finishes on all parts.
• Troubleshoot and resolve machining or quality issues, making necessary adjustments to offsets and machine parameters.
• Perform routine machine maintenance and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
• Minimum of 5 years of proven experience as a Cylindrical Grinder in a high-precision environment.
• Expertise in reading and interpreting complex engineering drawings.
• Proficient with a wide range of precision measuring instruments.
• Deep understanding of grinding principles, wheel selection, speeds, and feeds.
• A meticulous, detail-oriented mindset with a strong commitment to quality and accuracy.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
• Willing to work overtime.
Desirable Skills:
• Experience with grinding machines and controls (e.g., Fanuc, Siemens).
• Formal apprenticeship or technical qualification in Mechanical Engineering or Machining.
• Experience grinding components for the mining, electrical industries.
