Job Summary:
Role and Responsibilities:
- A qualified Safety Officer must possess the following minimum qualifications:
- SAMTRAC certification
- Training certificates in Risk Assessment, Working at Heights, Scaffolding, Confined Space, Lifting and Rigging Operations
- Emergency response and firefighting training
- First aid certification
- Additional relevant formal qualifications such as a safety diploma would be advantageous.
- Work Experience:
- Background in heavy industry (some familiarity with power plants and turbines is advantageous)
- Prior experience in outages/shutdowns
- Experience managing a large number of contractors, including foreign contractors
- Conducting risk assessments and facilitating toolbox talks
- Knowledge of permit-to-work systems, particularly LOTO (Lockout-Tagout)
- Familiarity with electrical and mechanical breakdown/maintenance work
- Proficient knowledge of crane equipment and lifting tackles (harnesses, slings, shackles, ropes, etc.)
- Other Requirements:
- Willingness to work extended hours when necessary
- Medically fit for the role
- Absence of phobias (e.g., height, chemicals, etc.)
- Assertive demeanor without being aggressive
- Compliance with site safety regulations
- Must have personal transportation.
